MG METRO TURBO
Catch me if you can
YEAR: 1982
Have you really never, at least once in your life, pictured yourself behind the wheel of a Duetto?
Maybe red, like this one. Maybe a 2000. Hood down, driving to the seaside.
It is an image common to a lot of car lovers and many others.
You also thought about that.
Otherwise you are not really an Italian.
The Duetto Series 2 was introduced in 1969 and stayed in production until 1982. Of the four series made, this is the most long-lived spider. The design of the rear is due to aerodynamic requirements, as the Kammback was meant to reduce drag.
The engine could produce between 89 and 132 hp, depending on the size (throughout the years the options were 1,300, 1,600, 1,750, and 2,000 cc.) The 2,000 cc engine was adapted for the US market as well, though equipped with Spica indirect fuel injection due to the more rigid emission regulations.
It is also the debut year of the successful TV show “Supercar”, with the great David Hasselhoff in the role of Michael Night; in the meantime, the hit parade was heavily influenced by the Italo-disco phenomenon.
A scorching summer, the one of 1982, to be spent with the roof folded down and the stereo at full volume.
